Alpenglow! “Put that in the Bank” Headed out to the north Cascades on Monday Night to film a new episode of “Out in the Field with Randall J Hodges” My little video series that captures me out in the field doing what I do. We had blue bird sky conditions, but a strong alpenglow saved the night with the final shot “Pow! Nailed That! That’s in the Bank!” It was such a beautiful afternoon with warm temps and beautiful fall color. It was also a “2 bear day”, as we saw two bear...

Owls Head Milky Way 'm a Milky Way Novice and this represents and effort I made in late August. I'd been looking forward to the 2 night respite in Owls Head Quebec for some time in the hopes of getting some night shots. We arrived late on night one and with all the trees didn't have a good view to shoot. 1 night gone. The following day was beautiful and after doing some searching around I found a good spot, I grew excited. I don't get the chance to practice night sky sho...

Llanddwyn Island, Anglesey, Wales by Karl Dyson This shot came after a good soaking from a different vantage point on Llanddwyn Island. The tide was in and the waves were strong so I headed up to the edge of the cliffs and started to take a series of images as the sky started to light up from the cloudy sunrise. From Inside A Widow Of Nature Funston Arch Complex Eagle Creek Natural Bridge Daniel Boone National Forest Kentucky I still haven't looked at most of my shots from early in April when myself and some good friends visited Cumberland Falls State Park! On our first morning we headed over to the Funston Arch Complex and I was looking for some new perspectives. I really dug this one framing in the window, the falls and beyond the falls the Eagle Creek Natural Bridge. I am also...

"Simplicity" I put the word simplicity in quotes not because I really intended to name the shot that, mostly because it was another lesson in a long procession of lessons that I've learned doing this hobby. Usually on my nightscapade trips I end up having "great" ideas pop into my head, after long days of hiking/working/traveling I'll have lightbulb moments spontaneously while out roaming under the stars. Then when I'm behind my computer putting in the grunt work I'll ofte...

Scarlet Lily When I first saw this beetle I thought it was a leaf rolling beetle (Apoderus sp.). But when I looked closer, the head and neck proved me wrong. I found this little critter on a lily plant which makes sense as this is a Scarlet Lily Beetle (Lilioceris lilii). The beetle was very patient and still as I tried to capture a small sequence of shots during a windy day. Size of beetle is 7mm. Focus stack of 10 images.
